FARMVILLE, Va.- The Marist softball team was shutout in both games of their doubleheader at Longwood on Thursday. The Red Foxes dropped the first game 2-0 and the second game 3-0. Marist (6-12) was led by Melissa Giordano (Stamford, Conn.) who went 4-for-7 in the two games.

Megan Rigos (Pittsburgh, Pa.) started game one and took the loss. The senior went the distance and gave up two runs. She scattered four hits and had nine strikeouts in what was her sixth complete game of the season.

Longwood scored single runs in the second and third inning. The Lancers were led by Camille Ketsdever who went 2-for-2 and scored a run. Rachelle Mills got the win on the mound for the Lancers (15-7)

Marist out-hit Longwood 5-4 in the opener. Giordano was 2-for-3, and Pamela de la Llave (West Orange, N.J.), Kate Malloy (Fair Haven, N.J.), and Alanna Woody (Clinton Corners, N.Y.) each had one hit.

In the second game, Longwood did all the scoring in the third inning. Marist starter Caitlin Carpentier (Andover, Mass.) walked the first two batters and then gave up RBI singles to Ryan Washington and Ketsdever. Briana Wells added a sac fly for the final margin.

Carpentier went 5 innings and gave up three runs on eight hits. Heather Viola (East Meadow, Mass.) came on to pitch a scoreless inning of relief.

Marist was once again paced by Giordano who went 2-for-4. De la Llave, Malloy, and Woody had the other Red Fox hits. They have now dropped four straight.

Marist will look to bounce back with a win when they take on Virginia Tech tomorrow in Blacksburg, Va. Game one will begin at 2 p.m.
