POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist University freshman
Maia Salvo was named Jersey Mike's Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week on Tuesday.

Salvo hit .333 with a 1.262 OPS (.833 slugging, .429 on-base) in five games last week. She belted two home runs, both of which came against nationally-ranked Arizona State on March 28. Salvo also drove in four runs, scored five times, had a walk, and was hit by a pitch.

Salvo helped fuel Marist's doubleheader sweep at Mount St. Mary's on March 24. In game one, she had an RBI groundout, and she then was hit by a pitch to lead off the seventh. She came around to score the first of Marist's five runs in the inning in its 10-5 win. In the second game, she went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, an RBI, and a walk. With the game scoreless in the top of the second, she drew a two-out walk and came around to score. She then led off the fourth with a single, and she came around to score. After Mount cut its deficit to one, Salvo's two-out RBI single in the fifth expanded Marist's lead.Â

This is Salvo's first MAAC weekly award of her career.

Marist is in first place in the MAAC with a 9-1 conference record. The Red Foxes return to action with a three-game series at Iona this weekend. There will be a Friday doubleheader and a single game on Saturday, with first pitch set for noon both days. All games will be shown on ESPN+.
