Game One Box Score
Game Two Box Score

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.- Melissa Giordano (Stamford, Conn.) and Pamela de la Llave (West Orange, N.J.) each homered, as the Marist softball team swept a doubleheader from Yale. Megan Rigos (Pittsburgh, Pa.) went the distance for the 2-1 win in the opener, and Caitlin Carpentier (Andover, Mass.) went 6.2 innings and got the win in the nightcap. The Red Foxes won the second game 1-0.

All of the Red Fox runs came by the long ball. In game one, Giordano hit an opposite field, two out, two-run homer over the right center field wall in the bottom of the fifth inning. It was her first homer of the season.

Rigos got the win and improved her record to 5-6 on the year. She scattered seven hits and struck out 10 Bulldogs. It was her seventh complete game of the year.

Both teams had seven hits in the opener. Giordano was 3-for-3 with a home run and a double to lead Marist (8-12). Senior catcher Alison Catenacci (Medfield, Mass.) went 2-for-3.

De la Llave provided all the offense the Red Foxes would need in the second game. After both pitchers cruised through the first three innings, the senior led off the bottom of the fourth with a line drive homer over the right field wall off Yale (8-8) starter KR Ling.

Carpentier (2-4) struck out seven and gave up three hits in her 6.2 innings of work. Heather Viola (East Meadow, Mass.) came on with two on and two out in the seventh to lock down the win and get her first career save.

"Caitlin (Carpentier) and Heather (Viola) did a great job for us in that second game," Marist head coach Erin Layton said. "With the holiday coming we could have lost focus, but we didn't. We played good softball for 14 innings, and I am very pleased with our effort today."

In the second game the Red Foxes had one hit other than the de la Llave homer, and it was Catenacci with a single in the fourth inning.

Marist played strong defense in both games and has gone three straight without an error.

"Our defense was fantastic today," said Layton. "It's been solid all year."

The Red Foxes will return to action when they host Binghamton on Tuesday. Game one is slated for a 2 p.m. start.
