BRONX, N.Y. -- The Marist women's tennis team rolled over Manhattan 7-0 in their Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opener. The Red Foxes won all three doubles matches for the doubles point and did not drop a single set in singles action.
Christine Ong (Tarzana, Calif.) and Cassie Strange (Valencia, Calif.) won their first doubles match 8-2 over Lindsey Keeler and Casey Conklin. In second doubles, Alexa Strange (Valencia, Calif.) and Emily Zampello (Kingwood, Texas) beat Jaclyn Dinielli and Nicole Mazza 8-2. In third doubles Mirelva Colon (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) and Natalie Fouche (Queens, N.Y.) rolled over Morgan MacTaggert and Lindsey Spagnolo 8-1.
In first singles Ong defeated Keeler 6-2, 6-2, and in second singles Cassie Strange breezed by Conklin 6-1, 6-1. Alexa Strange also won by a 6-1, 6-1 score in third singles.
In fourth singles Colon cruised by Dinielli 6-2, 6-1. Emily Zampello won her fifth singles match 6-1, 6-1, and Fouche won in sixth singles 6-0, 6-1.
Marist is now 2-7 overall and 1-0 in the MAAC. They will return to action when they host MAAC rival Fairfield on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
