POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.- Senior tri-captain Liz Burkhard (Wantagh, N.Y.) was named Honorable Mention Player of the Week by WomensLacrosse.com, it was announced Thursday. Last week in games against Lafayette, Iona, and Manhattan, Marist went 3-0, and the three-year starter was fantastic in goal. Burkhard and the rest of the Red Foxes will return to action on Friday evening at Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference foe Canisius.
Burkhard had seven saves versus Lafayette and at Iona. She had her best game of the week in Marist's throttling of Manhattan. She made 13 saves and had three ground balls. All in all, she made 27 saves and had eight ground balls.
The Red Foxes will take on Canisius this evening at 7 p.m. Canisius is 1-0 in the MAAC and will face first place Fairfield (3-0) after their matchup with the Red Foxes.
Marist is coming off a tough loss to Lehigh and is presently in third place in the MAAC standings (5-6, 2-1 MAAC).
After an overtime loss to Fairfield (3-0 MAAC), the Red Foxes have bounced back to win three out of their last four, and Head Coach Tanya Kotowicz knows that this is a big game for her team.
"With four games to go on the conference schedule, this is a big one for our team. It provides us with a great chance to prove ourselves against a strong opponent, and it also allows us to move up in the standings."
Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Buffalo.
