Game Two Box Score

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J.- Freshman Kate Malloy (Fair Haven, N.J.) hit a two out, two-run single in the top of the seventh inning of game one to give Marist a 3-2 lead, and Megan Rigos (Pittsburgh, Pa.) retired Rider in order in the bottom half to give the Red Foxes their first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference win of the season. Melissa Giordano (Stamford, Conn.) went 4-for-4 in a 7-3 game two win to complete the sweep.

The Broncs got on the board first in the opener when Aimee Schiller led off the second inning with a double, and scored after a Marist error.

The Red Foxes (15-22, 2-3 MAAC) were able to tie the score in the fourth. Alanna Woody (Clinton Corners, N.Y.) ripped a one out single, and Mary Beth Pomes (Milford, Pa.) sacrificed her to second base. Pomes reached on an error by the Rider first baseman to put runners on first and second, and Giordano walked to load the bases. After a fielder's choice, Jessica Green (Manassas, Va.) hit two out, RBI single to knot the score at 1-1.

Rider (10-24, 2-4 MAAC) took the lead back in their half of the fourth. Rigos hit the leadoff batter Brittany Eckett to start the inning off for the Broncs. She got the next two batters she faced, but Katy Mills was able to reach on an error to put runners on first and second with two out. Mandi Sekly singled to load the bases, and Rider pitcher Lauren Brunner knocked in the lead run with a single.

Both offenses went quiet until the Marist seventh. Senior Pamela de la Llave (West Orange, N.J.) led off with a single and Green followed with a walk. After a line out, both runners advanced on an Alison Catenacci (Medfield, Mass.) ground out, and Malloy followed with her huge single to plate the tying and lead runs.

Rigos retired the side in the bottom of the seventh, and Marist had their first MAAC victory of the season.

Green and first baseman Annie Castellano (Hauppauge, N.Y.) both had two hits to lead the Marist bats as the Red Foxes out-hit the Broncs 7-3.

Rigos improves her record to 11-10 on the year. She struck out seven and was charged with one earned run. It was her 17th complete game of the season.

Brunner took the loss in the circle for Rider. She falls to 5-11 on the year.

Both offenses came out on fire in the second game. Giordano led off the Red Fox first with a double and was driven in by Green. Castellano followed with a double to put runners on second and third with one out, and Malloy hit another two RBI single to put Marist up 3-0.

Rider answered with three of their own in the bottom of the first. The big hit was a three RBI double off the bat of Eckett.

After that first inning, Marist starter Caitlin Carpentier (Andover, Mass.) settled in nicely and did not allow another run. The junior went the distance and picked up her third win of the year.

The game remained tied 3-3 until the top half of the sixth. Castellano laced a lead off single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Malloy singled to place runners on first and third with one out, and McCallion Campbell (Port Jervis, N.Y.) hit an RBI ground out.

Carpentier worked around a two-out single in the bottom half and Marist tacked on three insurance runs in their seventh. Pomes led off the inning with a single and scored on a Giordano triple. De la Llave followed the triple with an RBI single. She swiped her team-high sixth base to get into scoring position, and the Red Foxes' seventh run came in after Castellano's fifth hit of the day.

Marist out-hit Rider 13-8 in the second game. Giordano led the way with four hits, two runs, and an RBI. Castellano had three hits, a run, and an RBI, and both Malloy and Green had two hits.

Jessica Holland took the loss in game two. Rider's offense was led by Candice Harris who had three hits.

Marist will return to action with a MAAC doubleheader in New Rochelle, N.Y. against the Iona Gaels. Game one is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. first pitch.
