Red Foxes Take Down Villanova And Siena, Move To 8-0 In MAAC Water Polo League

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, N.Y. - Marist continued their dominance of MAAC Water Polo League competition on Saturday, earning wins over Villanova and Siena at St. Francis (N.Y.) in Brooklyn Heights, N.Y. Junior 2M Katelin McCahill (East Grand Rapids, Mich.) led Marist with six goals on the day, all coming in the 21-9 defeat of Villanova. The Red Foxes are now 8-0 in the MAAC with two games left before the conference tournament.

Marist scored six goals in the first, second, and fourth quarters against Villanova in its first game of the day, easily defeating the Wildcats 21-9. The 21 goals is a season-high for the Red Foxes. Maggie Hatcher (Evanston, Ill.) had four goals with Kristen Barnett (Houston, Texas), Angie Rampton (Simi Valley, Calif.), and Colleen Lischwe (Kirkwood, Mo.) each adding a pair of tallies. Rachel Sunday (Carlisle, Pa.) and Elizabeth Davis (Albuquerque, N.M.) each had three steals. Davis and Madison Weber (Walnut Creek, Calif.) made four saves apiece in the win.

In the nightcap, the Red Foxes held Siena to one goal in each quarter for an 11-4 win. Marist led 6-2 at halftime and didn't look back. Barnett led Marist with three goals and three assists, with Caitlin Hopkins (Beaverton, Ore.) tallying her first two goals of the season. Sunday also scored a pair of goals, and had three assists. Davis made 10 saves as Marist moved to 23-7 on the season.

The Red Foxes will close out the 2008 regular season when they take on Iona and Wagner in Staten Island, N.Y. on Sunday.
