FAIRFIELD, Conn.- After waiting more than three weeks, Marist and Fairfield finally finished their halted game from April 6th on Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Softball Field in Fairfield, Connecticut. Fairfield scored a run in the bottom of the 14th inning off Megan Rigos to break a 5-5 tie and give the Stags a 6-5 triumph.
The game resumed in the top of 13th, but Marist was unable to get anything going as they were retired in order. In the bottom half, the Stags (8-6 MAAC) could not capitalize on a one out walk, and the game went into the 14th.
Marist (19-27, 5-7 MAAC) once again went quietly in their half, but the meat of the Stags order was able to pull through in the bottom of the inning. Kristina Lingo laced a one out double, and Meghan Borst delivered the game-winning single with two outs.
Rigos took the loss (14-13). She went the final 1.2 innings. Sarah Minice got the win. The freshman went the final nine innings for Faifield.
Back on April 6th, the game was stopped after the bottom of the 12th inning because of darkness.
Marist will host Manhattan and Saint Peter's in a pair of MAAC doubleheaders this weekend. Both twin bills are scheduled for noon starts.
