ONEONTA, N.Y. - Trailing 11-6 after three quarters, the Marist women's water polo team outscored #14 Hartwick 4-2 in the fourth quarter but it wasn't enough to overcome the Hawks on Wednesday night in Oneonta, N.Y. Marist fell 13-10, with junior Katelin McCahill (East Grand Rapids, Mich.) leading the Red Foxes with four goals.
Marist took a 3-1 lead after the first quarter on two goals from Hilary Schroeder (Santa Barbara, Calif.) and one from Kristen Barnett (Houston, Texas), but Hartwick came back to take a 6-5 lead at halftime. The Hawks came out of the locker with the momentum and scored five goals in the third quarter to take an 11-6 lead. The Red Foxes hung tough came back in the fourth quarter behind three goals from McCahill and one from freshman Agnes Konopka (Simi Valley, Calif.), outscoring Hartwick 4-2 in the final period.
Senior Maggie Hatcher (Evanston, Ill.) led Marist with three assists in the game, with Konopka, freshman Colleen Lischwe (Kirkwood, Mo.), and sophomore Samantha Swartz (Harleyville, Pa.) each adding one. Senior goalie Elizabeth Davis (Albuquerque, N.M.) led the Marist defense with five steals and 18 saves.
The Red Foxes return to action on Saturday when they take on Wagner and St. Francis (N.Y.) at Villanova.
