Final Stats
JACKSONVILLE, FLA. - The Marist softball team played in their fourth of five games at the Jacksonville Tournament on Saturday afternoon. The Red Foxes gave up five inning runs, en route to a 15-2 loss to Jacksonville (7-9) at the JU Softball Complex on the campus of Jacksonville University.
The Red Foxes came to the plate in the bottom half of the first down 5-0. Senior Melissa Giordano (Stamford, Conn.) led the inning off with a walk. She then stole her third base of the season, to move into scoring position. Giordano moved to third on a wild pitch by Dolphins starter Jackie Samuels. The senior co-captain was plated by classmate Jessica Green (Manassas, Va.), who hit a single to center field.
The Dolphins struck for six more runs in the top of the third, three in the fourth, and one in the fifth, before Marist would respond with one run in their half of the fifth. Senior Lindsey Kinel (East Hartford, Conn.) scored on a Brittany English (Wilton, Conn.) fielder's choice. It was their first run and RBI respectively of the season.
In the circle, Green took the loss for Marist as she gave up eight hits and 10 earned runs over 2.2 innings of work. She struck out two batters and walked four.
Marist (1-3) will conclude play at the Jacksonville Tournament on Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. when they take on Vermont for the second time this weekend. In the first meeting, the Red Foxes defeated the Catamounts 4-0, behind a seven hit shutout from senior pitcher Caitlin Carpentier (Andover, Mass.).
