BALTIMORE, MD. - The Marist Red Foxes' softball team took on the Drexel Dragons on the morning of day two of the Sixth Annual Dawg Pound Classic hosted by UMBC. Despite scoring three runs in the bottom half of the seventh, Marist fell to the Dragons 6-5.
Drexel jumped out to a 3-0 lead by the end of their half of the fourth inning, before Marist answered back with some offense of their own. After senior Melissa Giordano (Stamford, Conn.) led the bottom of the fourth off with a base hit, classmate Jessica Green (Manassas, Va.) hit a two-run home run over the fence in left center field. Freshman Megan Lameroux (Woonsocket, R.I.) and senior Lindsey Kinel (East Hartford, Conn.) both singled before the end of the inning.
Through four innings of play, the Red Foxes trailed by one run.
In the last half of the seventh inning, Marist came to the plate down 6-2. Freshman McCallion Campbell (Port Jervis, N.Y.) walk. The pair would advance to second and third on a Mary Beth Pomes (Milford, Pa.) groundout.
On the ensuing at bat, Green singled to right field, scoring Durant and two more runs that were plated because of a throwing error by Katy Harrington. A Heather Young (Saugerties, N.Y.) strikeout ended the Marist rally and the game.
