POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Marist head coach Tim Smith earned his 200th win at Marist with the men's tennis team as the Red Foxes shutout the Hartford Hawks, 6-0, on Monday afternoon. The win was Marist's eighth in dual matches this season, and sixth shutout on the year. Smith is one of two active coaches at Marist with 200 career coaching victories.
The Red Foxes opened the match as they took both doubles matches that were contested. At first doubles, junior Antonio Oliver (Madrid, Spain) and Landon Greene (Palos Verde, Calif.) bested Fil Miletic and Matt Seltzer, 8-2. It was Greene's and Oliver's sixth win as a pairing this season, and the two have not dropped a match together all spring.
Oliver cruised in his fourth singles victory over Miletic. The senior did not surrender a game as he won, 6-0, 6-0.
Junior Michael Land (Kingwood, Texas) got his first win of the spring in his first attempt as he won at fifth singles. He defeated Aaron Kooden, 6-3, 6-0.
Sessagesimi moved up a spot in the lineup as he took the top spot on Monday. He improved to 3-0 in the spot as he bested Dove, 6-1, 6-0. In all three of his first singles matches this season, Sessagesimi has won each second set 6-0.
Marist will return to action on Tuesday at the East Campus Tennis Pavilion as the Red Foxes host Senior Day. Marist will host Hofstra with first serve scheduled for 4 p.m., and the men's and women's tennis programs' three seniors will be honored prior to the match. The ceremony is scheduled to begin at approximately 3:45 p.m.
