POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Marist head women's basketball coach Brian Giorgis announced the hiring of Cori Chambers as Director of Basketball Operations. Chambers played collegiately at the University of Georgia from 2003-2007 and played professionally for the Connecticut Sun of the WNBA.
Chambers is Georgia's all-time leader in three-pointers made in a career with 282, making a Lady Bulldogs' record 85 threes in the 2006-07 season. She also played in a Georgia record 106 games in her four years in Athens, Ga. Chambers scored 1,490 points in her collegiate career, averaging 11 points per game. Georgia reached the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament in each of Chambers' four seasons there, and got as far as the Elite 8 in 2004. A Southeastern Conference All-Freshman team selection in 2004, Chambers was a second-team All-SEC pick as a junior and as a senior.
After her career at Georgia, Chambers was drafted in the second round of the 2007 WNBA draft by the Connecticut Sun. She played one season with the Sun before playing overseas for Shelen ETK Basket Club in Russia and S-dent Sierre Basket Club in Switzerland. Chambers was the starting shooting guard for both European teams during the Euro League season.
Marist opens the 2009-10 season on Friday, Nov. 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the McCann Center against North Carolina A&T in the Preseason WNIT. The Red Foxes are coming off a 29-4 season in 2008-09, their sixth straight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular season championship, and fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.
