NEW HAVEN, CONN. - Junior Chris Foster (Pittsburgh, Pa.) of the Marist men's tennis team won a pair of matches in the qualifying round of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Regional on Thursday at Yale University. Foster, who was an alternate to enter the qualifying draw, replaced Ian Terpilowski of Monmouth in the bottom half of the draw.
Foster began the day with a routine 6-4, 6-2 victory over Mark Hemy of Fairleigh Dickinson University. He then used a three-set victory over David Sherwood of Monmouth to earn the eighth and final qualifying spot into the 128-person main draw. Foster defeated Sherwood 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Sophomore Joris Van Eck (Ospel, Netherlands) and freshman Will Reznek (Toronto, Canada) were also in the qualifying draw. Each player won its first round match but fell in the second round. Van Eck defeated Erik Kremheller of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe Fairfield in the first round 6-4, 6-1, but fell to Andrew Weeden of Quinnipiac, 6-2, 6-3 in the second round.
After Reznek posted a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Rommel Verano of Army, Reznek fell to the sixth-seeded Alistair Felton of Harvard 6-2, 7-6 (8).
On Friday, the main draw for singles and doubles will begin. The singles draw consists of 128 players, while the doubles draw has 64 pairings. The Marist matchups are listed below:
