HANOVER, N.H. - Senior Marcus von Nordheim (Munich, Germany) and freshman Bradley Royes (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) of the Marist men's tennis team won their Flight D and E at the Dartmouth Shootout on Sunday. Each player won two matches on Sunday to capture the flights.
Von Nordheim coasted past Chris Dale of Amherst in the semifinals with a 6-1, 6-1 victory to earn a spot in the finals. In the finals, he defeated Eric Dietsche of Williams College, 7-6 (6), 6-3.
In Flight E, Royes defeated Will Rives of Amherst 6-2, 6-2 in the semifinals. In the championship match, Royes bested Andrew Malizia of Dartmouth, and won each set by a service break. The set scores were 6-4, 6-4.
In addition to the pair of championships, freshman Willl Reznek (Toronto, Canada) advanced to the finals in Flight B. He defeated Brown's Soufiane Azargui in a come-from-behind three set thriller. The final score was 3-6, 6-4, 11-9. Reznek fell in the finals to Brandon DeBot of Dartmouth, also in three sets, 7-6 (5), 4-6, 10-6.
Marist will continue with its fourth fall tournament in as many weekends at the Columbia Fall Classic. A three-day event, the Classic will begin on Friday, Oct. 8 in New York, N.Y.
