LEWISBURG, PA. - The Marist water polo team won its second consecutive game Sunday, taking down Maryland 5-4 at the Bucknell Invitational. The Red Foxes are now 3-5 on the season. Senior Kristen Barnett (Houston, Texas) led Marist with three goals, while Rachel Sunday (Carlisle, Pa.) tallied a pair of goals.
The Red Foxes jumped out to a quick 2-1 lead after the first quarter, and kept the lead at one going into halftime 3-2. Marist's defense shutout Maryland 1-0 in the third quarter to take a 4-2 lead, helped by goalie Jessica Getchius (Simi Valley, Calif.) who had 12 saves and three steals in the game. The Terrapins added two goals in the fourth quarter, but Marist added one to take the 5-4 lead. Samantha Swartz (Harleysville, Pa.) had two assists and four steals in the game. Angie Rampton (Simi Valley Calif.) had an assist and two steals.
Marist returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 27 at the ECAC Championships held at Princeton. The Red Foxes enter that tournament as the No. 2 seed and will take on Harvard at 12 p.m.
