PRINCETON, N.J. - The Marist water polo team moved to 4-7 on the season after a 7-6 loss to Maryland on Sunday in the third-place game at the 2010 ECAC Championships at Princeton. Angie Rampton (Simi Valley, Calif.) and Samantha Swartz (Harleysville, Pa.) each had a pair of goals for the Red Foxes while goalie Jessica Getchius (Simi Valley, Calif.) made 10 saves.
The Red Foxes got off to a strong start, leading 2-0 after the first quarter and adding two more tallies to take a 4-2 lead at halftime. The Terrapins closed to within one in the third quarter, outscoring Marist 2-1 to make the score 5-4. Maryland then scored three goals in the fourth to get the 7-6 win. Emily St. Omer Roy (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) and Agnes Konopka (Simi Valley, Calif.) each tallied a goal in the game. Swartz and Getchius each had two steals. Robyn Crabtree (Cutler Bay, Fla.), Rosie Pauli (Sacramento, Calif.), St. Omer Roy, and Swartz each had an assist.
Marist returns to action March 13-14 at the San Diego State Invitational. The Red Foxes will take on Loyola Marymount, currently #7 in the country, and Cal State Bakersfield on the 13th.
