Marist Water Polo Splits Games With Redlands And Indiana at Triton Invitational

LA JOLLA, CALIF. - The Marist water polo team earned its first win of the 2010 season on Sunday, defeating Redlands 14-4 at the Triton Invitational. In their second game of the day, the Red Foxes were defeated by Indiana 8-6 to make their record 1-4. Angie Rampton (Simi Valley, Calif.) led Marist with three goals, while Samantha Swartz (Harleysville, Pa.) and freshman Robyn Crabree (Cutler Bay, Fla.) had two goals apiece against the Hoosiers.

Marist broke open a 1-1 tie in the first quarter with Redlands when Emily St. Omer Roy (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) and Rachel Sunday (Carlisle, Pa.) scored back-to-back goals to give the Red Foxes a 3-1 lead with 3:12 left in the first. The Red Foxes also got goals from Rampton and Pauli to close the quarter, giving Marist a 5-2 lead.

St. Omer Roy scored her second goal of the game to open the scoring in the second quarter, putting Marist ahead 6-2. The Red Foxes shut out Redlands in the period, as goals by Sunday, Rampton, and Barnett gave Marist a 9-2 halftime lead. Marist outscored Redlands 5-2 in the second half for the 14-4 win. Sunday, Barnett, and St. Omer Roy all scored two goals in the Red Foxes' first win of the 2010 season. Crabtree and fellow freshmen Jessica Getchius (Simi Valley, Calif.) made 10 saves and also had three assists.

The Red Foxes trailed 5-3 at halftime in their game against Indiana. The Hoosiers then shutout Marist 2-0 in the third quarter to take a 7-3 lead. Marist outscored Indiana 3-1 in the fourth to make the final score 8-6. Hilary Schroeder (Santa Barbara, Calif.) and Agnes Konopka (Simi Valley, Calif.) each scored a goal for Marist. Rampton had four assists in the game, while Getchius had 14 saves.

Marist returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 13 at the Bucknell Invitational.
