BERKELEY, Calif. -- The Marist women's basketball team, seeded 12th in the Memphis Region, had its season end on Saturday with a 62-42 loss to fifth-seeded Georgetown at Haas Pavilion. Sophomore guard Corielle Yarde (Reading, Pa.) scored a game-high 15 points and added eight rebounds for the Red Foxes, who shot a season-low .217 (13-for-60) from the field.
Playing in her final collegiate game, senior forward Rachele Fitz (Seven Hills, Ohio) finished with 10 points and nine rebounds. Fitz capped her Marist career with 2,447 points and 1,066 rebounds. Junior guard Erica Allenspach (Miamisburg, Ohio) added 11 points and seven rebounds.
The Red Foxes started fast, scoring the game's first seven points and jumping out to a 16-6 lead with 13:52 left in the first half. However, Marist scored just seven points the rest of the half.
With 1:59 left in the first half, a three-pointer by Georgetown's Latia Magee gave the Hoyas their first lead at 23-22, and they took a 25-23 lead into halftime.
Georgetown then broke the game open by outscoring Marist 13-0 over the first 3:20 of the second half to take a 38-23 lead. The Hoyas hit three-pointers on their first three possessions of the second half, with first two coming from Monica McNutt and the third coming from Sugar Rodgers. Marist never got closer than 11 points after that, while Georgetown led by as much as 27. The Red Foxes shot just .156 (5-for-32) after halftime.
McNutt led Georgetown with 14 points, while Magee added 11. Alexa Roche pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds, while Shanice Fuller had 11 assists against just one turnover.
Georgetown held a 49-38 edge in rebounds, with the Hoyas grabbing 20 on the offensive end. They committed just eight turnovers, while the Red Foxes had just 10.
The senior class of Fitz, Lynzee Johnson (Bellbrook, Ohio) and Brittany Engle (South Easton, Mass.) combined for a career record 116-21, four Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championships and three NCAA Tournament victories.
Marist concluded the season at 26-8, the Red Foxes' fourth consecutive year of at least 25 victories. Georgetown is now 26-6.
