FAIRFAX, VA. - The Marist softball team lost 11-0 to the Bucknell Bison on Sunday morning in its third game at the George Mason Invitational. Bucknell scored three runs in each of the first two innings.
Bucknell led off the game with back-to-back hits. After Mary Horton led the game off with a double to left field, she scored on a Lauren Fry base hit, which went through the right side. The Bison added a third run in the first to take a 3-0 lead after one inning.
In the bottom of the first, sophomore Megan Lamoureux (Woonsocket, R.I.) reached base in her third straight game as she drew a walk.
Sophomore Kate Malloy (Fair Haven, N.J.) strung consecutive hits together to lead off the second. DiVirgilio was caught stealing second and Malloy was stranded on first base.
The Bison added three more runs in its half of the second to increase the lead to 6-0. Five more runs were scored in the fourth inning - Bucknell sent 11 batters to the plate in the inning.
Freshman Emily Osterhaus (Swanee, Ga.) suffered her second loss of the season as she pitched three innings. She surrendered eight runs, all of which were earned on eight hits. She is 0-2.
Marist will wrap up play at the George Mason Invitational at 11:15 a.m., on Sunday against George Mason.
