LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - The Marist water polo team extended its winning streak to five games on Saturday with wins over St. Francis (NY) 12-6 and Villanova 16-2 at the Siena Swim Center. Kristen Barnett (Houston, Texas) led the Red Foxes with three goals and four assists against St. Francis (NY) while Agnes Konopka (Simi Valley, Calif.) had five goals against Villanova.
Marist opened the day against the St. Francis (NY) Terriers. The Red Foxes held the Terriers to one goal in each of the first three quarters to build an 8-3 lead. Marist then outscored St. Francis (NY) 4-3 in the fourth for the 12-6 win. Hilary Schroeder (Santa Barbara, Calif.) and Rachel Sunday (Carlisle, Pa.) each had a pair of goals in the win. Jessica Getchius (Simi Valley, Calif.), the reigning MAAC Water Polo League Defensive Player of the Week, had 11 saves in goal for Marist.
In their second game, the Red Foxes took on the Villanova Wildcats. After taking a 6-2 lead after the first quarter, the Marist defense shut down Villanova and held them scoreless. The Red Foxes added three goals in the second quarter, a goal in the third, and six more in the fourth for the convincing 16-2 win. Angie Rampton (Simi Valley, Calif.) had two goals and three assists for Marist, while Mackenzie Maynes (Newcastle, Wash.) had a pair of goals and three steals. Getchius had 13 saves in the game with three steals. Marist's two wins put it at 4-0 in the MAAC Water Polo League and 11-12 on the season.
Marist will host MAAC Water Polo action at the McCann Natatorium on Sunday. The Red Foxes will take on Iona at 10:30 a.m. before playing Siena at 4:30 p.m. Prior to the Siena game, the Marist Athletic Department will hold a special Senior Day ceremony for the 10 seniors on this season's team.
