ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Marist water polo team had its seven-game winning streak snapped Wednesday night, losing to the #11 Hartwick Hawks 10-7 at Moyer Pool. The Red Foxes are now 13-13 on the season. Senior Samantha Swartz (Harleysville, Pa.) led Marist with three goals as Rosie Pauli (Sacramento, Calif.) had three assists and three steals.
Hartwick took a 2-1 lead after the first quarter, then pulled away with four goals in the second quarter to take a 6-2 halftime lead. Marist scored twice in the third, but the Hawks put in three goals to increase their lead to 9-4. The Red Foxes outscored Hartwick 3-1 in the fourth to make the final score 10-7. Pauli, Hilary Schroeder (Santa Barbara, Calif.), Emily St. Omer Roy (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) each scored a goal for Marist. Angie Rampton (Simi Valley, Calif.) had two steals and drew three ejections. Jessica Getchius (Simi Valley, Calif.) made nine saves in goal.
The Red Foxes return to action with a pair of MAAC Water Polo League games at St. Francis (NY) on Saturday. Marist will take on Villanova at 1 p.m. and Siena at 4 p.m.
