BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, N.Y. - The Marist Water Polo team moved to 8-0 in the MAAC Water Polo League, and 15-13 on the season, on Saturday with wins over Villanova and Siena at St. Francis (NY). The Red Foxes took down Villanova 15-6 behind six goals from Rachel Sunday (Carlisle, Pa.) and five goals from Angie Rampton (Simi Valley, Calif.), and beat the Saints 10-8.
Marist and Villanova battled to a 4-4 halftime lead in the Red Foxes' first game of the day. The Red Foxes then exploded for eight goals in the third quarter to take a 12-6 lead. Marist added three more goals in the fourth for the 15-6 win. Emily St. Omer Roy (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) and Samantha Swartz (Harleysville, Pa.) also scored. Rampton and Swartz each had three assists. Senior goalie Jessica Getchius (Simi Valley, Calif.) had nine saves, three steals, and an assist against Villanova.
The Red Foxes then took on Siena in their second game of the day. After playing to a 1-1 tie in the first quarter, Marist put five goals on the scoreboard in the second quarter to take a 6-3 halftime lead. The Red Foxes continued to pour it on with four more goals in the third to go ahead 10-5. Siena added three goals in the fourth but it would not be enough to take down Marist. St. Omer Roy led the Red Foxes with three goals as Agnes Konopka (Simi Valley, Calif.) added two goals. Swartz had three assists and two steals. Getchius made 13 saves in goal with two steals.
Marist wraps up the regular season Sunday at Wagner. The Red Foxes will take on Iona at 9 a.m. before playing the host Seahawks at 4 p.m.
