SAN DIEGO, CALIF. - The #20 Marist women's water polo scored three fourth quarter goals and senior Jessica Getchius (Simi Valley, Calif.) made 11 saves on the day, but an 11-0 lead for third-seeded UCLA was too much for the Red Foxes to overcome in the consolation round of the 2010 NCAA Women's Water Polo Championship at the Aztec Aquaplex on the campus of San Diego State University.

Seniors Samantha Swartz (Harleysville, Pa.) and Angie Rampton (Simi Valley, Calif.) accounted for the Red Foxes' offense on the afternoon. Swartz's pair of goals were separated by a Priscilla Orozco 5-meter penalty shot. Her first goal was a penalty shot as well, followed by a power play goal, Marist's fifth of the tournament. Rampton tallied an even strength goal with 3:11 to play.

The Bruins jumped out to a 7-0 halftime lead as the Red Foxes offense struggled to get going in the opening half of play. KK Clark led the way for the Bruins offense with four goals, two of which came in the first half.

UCLA (21-8), the five-time defending NCAA Champions, extended its lead to 11-0 before Marist go on the board with 5:49 to play in the fourth quarter with Swartz's first tally. Marist (18-16) scored back-to-back goal off shots from Swartz and Rampton with 4:09 and 3:11 to play in the final stanza.

For the second straight day, the Red Foxes matched their opponents' offensive output in the fourth quarter. In each of Marist's first two games at the 2010 NCAA Championship, the team has been tied in the final quarter of play 3-3 in both of its matches with USC on Friday and UCLA on Saturday.

Marist will return to the pool for its final game of the 2010 season as it takes on the loser of Michigan and Pomona-Pitzer for seventh place in the championship. Last season in the seventh-place game, Marist defeated Cal Lutheran for the Red Foxes first water polo win in NCAA Tournament play. The Red Foxes' finale is slated to begin at 3 p.m. EDT/Noon PDT at the Aztec Aquaplex.
