Ten Question Timeout With Landon Greene

June 15, 2010

The Marist Athletics Department introduces "Ten Question Timeout," a summer series which profiles Marist student-athletes. The first student-athlete to be interviewed this summer is Landon Greene of the three-time defending Metro Atlantic Atletic Conference (MAAC) champion men's tennis team.

1. My favorite athletic memory at Marist is...

  • I have two favorite memories. My first would be winning the MAAC as a freshman and going to the NCAA Tournament. It was my freshman year and it was really awesome to win the MAAC right off the bat, and be able to go to Ole Miss and play the 4th-seeded team in the nation.
  • Individually, my favorite moment was my NCAA singles match against the Univ. of Florida. They were ranked no.10 in the country, and my singles match that was in a first set tiebreaker when the match was called. That was my favorite because it was nice to see myself compete with someone at such a high level and stay in the match with him the whole time.

2. The most interesting thing I have done this summer is...

  • My first week off of school I went to Florida to go fishing with my dad off shore and I caught a bunch of red snapper, some grouper, and a 5-foot shark.

3. I chose Marist because...

  • I really wanted to go to school on the east coast, and I loved how close this was to the city. When I came for my visit I thought the campus was really nice with a new library right on the river. After I met with Coach [Tim] Smith, I thought I would be able to learn a lot from him and playing tennis for Marist would be an enjoyable experience, and really competitive because of our schedule. Additionally, we had new courts built right before I came so when I got there I played on new courts. Lastly, I am a business major so I was interested in the great program that Marist offers.

4. The song I am most embarrassed to admit I have on my iPod is...

  • Dollhouse by Priscilla Renea...don't judge

5. My favorite sports team/athlete is...

  • Since I am from LA, I would have to say the LA Lakers...BEAT BOSTON!!!

6. If you could have dinner with three people (alive or dead) they would be...

  • Snoop Dogg, John F. Kennedy, and Socrates. Random I know but I love Hip-Hop. I think it would just be really interesting to talk to JFK and learn what really went on in his life. I would like to learn from Socrates because I have read him a little in classes and I think it would be interesting to learn more.

7.If you could play another sport at Marist, it would be...

  • Either basketball or hockey. I played basketball in high school and hockey growing up so if tennis weren't around I would have played either one of those.

8. If you were deserted on an island and could have only three items with you, I would pick...

  • Apples, peanut butter and gatorade. My favorite snack is apples and peanut butter so if I had to only eat one thing forever assuming I was never rescued it was that, and Gatorade because it is high in electrolytes and will be able to quench thirst and prolong survival.

9. My goal for next year is...

  • My goals for next year are to complete capping and do well on the LSATs. Athletically, I want to win the MAAC again and try to win a set at the NCAAs.

10. My plans after Marist are...

  • My plans after Marist are to continue to play tennis and then move on to law school.
