FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. - Four Marist men's tennis players have reached the main draw semifinals on the second day of the USTA Men's Collegiate Invitational at the National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. Junior Landon Greene (Palos Verdes, Calif.) earned a come-from-behind victory in the Flight D quarterfinals.
Both Reznek and Klassen have earned berths in the semifinals as well. Reznek is in Flight G, while Klassen is competing in Flight H.
Himmelsbach routinely beat Chris Hasyn of Pennsylvania 6-2, 6-3 in Flight C.
After he dropped the first set, Greene battled back against Alex Van Glis of George Washington to take the second set and the third set super tiebreaker. The final score was 3-6, 6-3, 11-9.
In Flight G, Reznek won his fifth match in a row to begin his college career with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Allen Zu. Klassen beat a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe in Fairfield's Bjorn Merinder 6-4, 6-3 in the Flight H quarterfinals.
In doubles action senior Rhys Hobbs (Sydney, Australia) and Klassen defeated Mark Kremheller and Merinder 8-3 in Flight D.
The Red Foxes will conclude play at the USTA Collegiate Men's Invitational on Sunday at 9 a.m.
