- The Marist women's swimming and diving team defeated Rider in both team's conference
dual opener on Saturday afternoon. In
the 150-134 victory junior Kate
Conard (East Setauket, N.Y.) led the Red Foxes with three individual
victories. Sophomores Maddie
Arciello (Missoula, Mont.) and Lauren Weiner (Feeding Hills, Mass.), and freshman
Greta
Leberfinger (Chatham, N.J.) also earned individual wins for Marist.
Conard collected her wins in both of the distance freestyle events, the 500-
and 1000-yd, as well as in the 100-yd backstroke. In the 1000-yd freestyle, she
finished with a time of 10:25.73, 11.33 ahead of her second place finishing teammate
sophomore Bonnie Orr (Fresno, Calif.). She earned her second win with a 59.29
time in the 100-yd backstroke. Conard finished her perfect day in individual
events with a 7.73 second victory over Rider's Melanie Leonhard in the 500-yd
freestyle with a time of 5:07.94.
The junior was also the anchor of the victorious 400-yd
freestyle relay team. The squad of Arciello, Orr, Michelle Fountain (Sayville,
N.Y.) and Conard cleared Rider's "A" team by over two seconds with a 3:35.69
win.
Leberfinger had the second-most successful on the women's
team as she earned two victories in the 100- and 200-yd breaststroke events. In
the 100-yd race she finished in first with a 1:07.88 time, while she completed
the 200-yd in 2:26.83.
The freshman was also a member of the first place 200-yd
medley relay team, who won with a time of 1:50.58. Leberfinger was joined by
Erica Vitale (Sterling, Conn.), Emily Miles (Long Valley, N.J.) and Arciello.
Arciello was the final Red Fox individual winner versus
Rider. In event 15, the 50-yd freestyle sprint, she swam to victory with a time
of 24.71. Arciello just missed earning her second victory in the 100-yd
freestyle as she fell to Rider's Addison Oswald by .28 with her time of 53.99.
In diving events, Weiner finished in first place in both of
the boards. She earned 218.85 points in the 3-meter board and 216.38 in the
1-meter.
Marist is now 2-1 on the season. The Red Foxes will return
to action with a dual meet at MAAC foe Canisius on Sunday, Nov. 6 at 11 a.m.
