SAN DIEGO, CALIF. - The Marist women's water polo team lost a pair of games on the first day of the 2011 Triton Invitational hosted by UC San Diego at the Canyonview Pool on Saturday. The Red Foxes first suffered a 15-4 defeat at the hands of seventh-ranked Michigan. In its second game of the day, #20 Marist fell to UC Santa Barbara 12-3.

In the first game of the day against the seventh-ranked Wolverines, Michigan (9-2) jumped out to an 11-3 halftime lead behind seven second quarter goals. After Michigan added four third quarter goals to make the score 15-3, the Red Foxes got a goal in the fourth quarter to arrive at the final score.

Senior Rosie Pauli (Sacramento, Calif.) netted the team's first hat trick of the season against the Wolverines, while freshman Kristen Siegel (San Diego, Calif.) scored her second goal of the season. Lauren Colton and Meagan Cobb each tallied a hat trick for Michigan.

Against UCSB, the Gauchos held the Red Foxes without a goal in the first half to gain a 7-0 advantage.

Sophomore Robyn Crabtree (Cutler Bay, Fla.) scored two second half goals and senior Agnes Konopka (Simi Valley, Calif.) added a third. Santa Barbara got three goals from Christie Clark and two each from Kacey Creek and Elle Quane.

Marist (0-3) returns to the pool on Sunday, Feb. 13 when it concludes play at the UC San Diego Triton Invitational. The Red Foxes will begin the day against Cal State Bakersfield at 12:20 p.m. ET.
