BOSTON, Mass. - Heading to Boston for the second time this indoor season, the Red Foxes competed at the Boston University Valentine Invitational on Saturday. Hosted at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center, the Valentine Invitational was the scene of another IC4A qualification, 10 personal bests and 19 season best results. Freshman Ken Walshak (Babylon, N.Y.) led the list of outstanding performers for the Red Foxes with his IC4A qualifying and Marist freshman record time in the 5,000-meter run.
With his time of 14:42.74, Walshak edged out previous record holder David Raucci's 2006 time of 14:42.92 to take his place atop the Marist record books for fastest freshman 5,000-meter time. His time which garnered him a 20th place finish in the event also saw him become the 17th runner in school history to break the 15 minute barrier and take over the seventh fastest result all-time.
Following Walshak in the list of Marist personal best performers were seniors Patrick Duggan (Rockville Centre, N.Y.), Conor Shelley (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) and Zak Smetana (Niskayuna, N.Y.), junior Phillip Krupka (Allentown, Pa.) and Billy Posch (Wantagh, N.Y.) and freshmen Jesse Aprile (Yorktown, N.Y.) and Sean Ellman (Poughquag, N.Y.).
