Final Stats

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist women's tennis squad finally met up with the Manhattan Jaspers in a matchup, which was originally scheduled for March 31, rescheduled for this earlier today and eventually moved it indoors to the Dutchess Racquet Club. In an abbreviated match, the Red Foxes were victorious by a score of 4-1. Sophomore Joana Sun (Gales Ferry, Conn.) helped lead the team to their ninth win of the year and third in conference with victories in both singles and doubles.

Competing at the no. 3 singles, Sun faced off with Stephanie Tsao and won in decisive fashion, 6-0, 6-0. In doubles, she teamed with freshman Marielle Campbell (Patterson, N.Y.) at the no. 2 position and defeated the Jasper team of Valenzuela and Tsao, 8-2.

In singles, Campbell also posted a victory with a strong showing versus Christina Ton. She won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.

Senior Jeannie Lukin (Kinderhook, N.Y.) was the third Red Fox to collect a singles victory as she defeated Megan Maffei at no. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-2.

Sophomore Kelsey Raynor (Garden City, N.Y.) and junior Erin McCarthy (Salem, N.J.) both had their matches halted once Marist had clinched victory with their fourth team point. At the time, Raynor was leading Lili Johnson in no. 1 singles, 4-0 and McCarthy was tied with Hilary Valenzuela, 3-3.

Marist took the doubles point as all three teams were victorious by scores of 8-2. Raynor and McCarthy won no. 1 doubles, Sun and Campbell no. 2 and Lukin and Senior Retta Byron (Scottsdale, Ariz.) were winners at the no. 3 position.

Marist will be in action on Thursday, April 14 when they host Siena in a MAAC matchup. Prior to the match, there will be short ceremony to honor the four graduating senior members of the squad: Juliana Boas (Curitiba, Brazil), Joanna Macaluso (Stormville, N.J.), Retta Byron and Jeannie Lukin.
