ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Marist water polo team (17-20) fell to the 12th ranked Hartwick Hawks (24-9) in the team's final regular season non-conference game by a score of 17-10. Senior Agnes Konopka (Simi Valley, Calif.) was the leading goal scorer for the Red Foxes in the game.
Hartwick came out fast as they outscored Marist 5-2 through the first eight minutes of action. In the second quarter, the scoring went back and forth with Hartwick taking a 3-2 goal edge. At the half, the Hawks were up by a score of 8-4.
In the second half, Hartwick kept up their scoring pace as they won the third quarter, 4-2. Heading into the fourth down, 12-6, Marist had their best offensive quarter as they scored four goals. On the strength of five goals, Hartwick finished the quarter and game with a 17-10 victory.
Konopka led a group of six Red Foxes, who scored goals in the contest. Senior Kirsten Siegel (San Diego, Calif.) all had single goals in the game.
Defensively, freshman goalie Alexis Solaro (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) made 14 saves in net. Kline led the team three steals.
The team will complete their regular season with a pair of MAAC games on Saturday April 23, against Villanova at 1 p.m. and St. Francis (NY) at 4 p.m.
