POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Senior Erin Betsch (Port Washington, N.Y.) of the Marist women's lacrosse team has been named CoSIDA/Capital One First Team. A Psychology/Special Education major, Betsch was selected from the at-large pool.
This past season, Betsch was once again one of the team's top defenders. She appeared in 13 games, and made 11 starts. She finished the season tied for second on the team with 14 ground balls, and also totaled 16 ground balls and 16 draw controls.
Betsch, who spent her first two seasons at Davidson before transferring to Marist, was an integral part of the Red Foxes' first tournament team in 2010. She started all 18 of the team's games, and was third on the Red Foxes with 18 caused turnovers to go along 24 ground balls, eight draw controls and an assist.
Betsch's Academic All-District selection gives the Red Foxes 10 for the 2010-11 academic year. She joins Joe Touloumis (men's soccer), Krystian Witkowski (men's soccer), Lauren Tillotson (women's soccer), Jamie Balzarini (women's soccer), Terrence Turner (football), Allie Burke (volleyball), Sarah Carmody (volleyball), Ricky Pacione (baseball) and Jon Schwind (baseball). By virtue of her first team selection, Betsch is now eligible for CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-America honors.
To be nominated for the team, one must maintain a 3.30 cumulative GPA, be a starter or key reserve on their team and be of at least sophomore standing.
