LEWISBURG, PA - The Marist water polo team split their final two games at the Bison Invite, defeating Gannon 16-5 and falling to Brown 7-5.
Five players scored at least two goals in the Red Foxes (2-10) victory over the Knights. Jessica and Alison Hamby (Sacramento, Calif.), Kathryn Knutson (Oakland, Calif.) and Jaclyn Puccino (San Diego, Calif.) all scored twice and Kelly Kline (Reading, Pa.) led the team with three scores. Shelby Rinker (Lansdale, Pa.) added two assists and Elise Humphries (Anaheim, Calif.) made nine saves in the Marist goal.
Marist led 6-0 after the first quarter and 10-1 at halftime.
In their earlier game, five different players scored for Marist. Rinker, Alison Hamby, Anna-Lena Hathaway (Pasadena, Calif.), Desiree Desaulniers (Orlando, Fla.) and Kline all registered scores for the Red Foxes. Puccino had three assists and Hamby and Kline each had three steals on the defensive end. Rebecca Thomas (Cape Town, South Africa) made 10 saves in net.
The Red Foxes took a went on a 4-1 run to take a two-goal lead less than a minute into the second half. The Bears responded however, scoring the next five over an 11-minute span to take control with a 7-4 lead with just 4:12 left to play. Desaulniers scored her goal in the final minute, but it was too late to spark a comeback.
Marist will play two individual games next Saturday against Hartwick and Indiana. The Red Foxes open their home slate March 9-11 when they host the Marist Invite.
