VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Marist water polo team won both of their games on Sunday to finish the regular season with a .500 record. They defeated Villanova 11-2 in the morning game, then beat Siena by a 16-10 score in a pair of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) contests played at Villanova.
Against the Wildcats in the first game, Marist (18-18, 10-2 MAAC) was led by three goals from Hannah Levien (Davis, Calif.). Kelly Kline (Reading, Pa.) and Heather Fellmeth (North Wales, Pa.) each scored twice and Kline also added an assist. Four others found the back of the net for the Red Foxes and Natalie Stringer (San Diego, Calif.) had two assists. Elise Humphries (Anaheim, Calif.) made seven saves in net and added two assists.
Desiree Desaulniers (Orlando, Fla.) led the charge in the second game with four goals while Jaclyn Puccino (San Diego, Calif.) and Kline scored three times. Puccino also added three assists. Humphries played three quarters in net, making eight saves.
The two wins, coupled by Iona's 11-10 sudden death overtime victory over Wagner, gave Marist the second seed in the MAAC Tournament. The Red Foxes will play Wagner, the third seed, in the semifinals on Saturday, April 28 at the McCann Natatorium. The other semifinal will see the top seed Iona play the fourth seed, which has yet to be determined. The consolation and championship game will be played the following day, Sunday, April 29.
