EDISON, N.J. – Senior Leanne Ockenden (Syracuse, N.Y.) has been named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) women's basketball player of the week for her success this past weekend at the Hall of Fame Challenge in Columbus, Ohio.
Ockenden had a career-high weekend in Columbus. In three games, Ockenden shot 21-33 (.636) from the field, 9-19 (.474) from three-point range, and 12-12 from the free-throw line. Against the Buckeyes, Ockenden shot 7-8 (.875) from the field and 6-7 (.857) from three-point range. She shot an impressive 9-15 (.600) from the field against the Lady Monarchs in Marist's win on Sunday. Ockenden scored 63 points on the weekend (16 vs. Bowling Green, 23 at Ohio State, and 24 vs. Old Dominion) in 114 minutes of play. She also posted six rebounds and six assists with two steals and one block.
Ockenden is currently ranked 30th nationally in three-pointers made per game. Marist is ranked 19th in the same category.
The Red Foxes finished the challenge 2-1, defeating Bowling Green 74-60 and Old Dominion 87-82. The Red Foxes were narrowly edged by Ohio State on Saturday, 62-59.
Marist plays the final game of the Hall of Fame Challenge on Sunday, Dec. 1 against St. Bonaventure in Springfield, Mass. at the Mass Mutual Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
