NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Marist men's tennis team split a pair of dual matches on Sunday at the Yale 3-Way Tournament, falling to the host Bulldogs 7-0 before bouncing back to defeat Fairleigh Dickinson 5-2.

In the first match of the day, Yale swept both the doubles and singles, but Dalen Klassen (St. Louis, Mo.), Will Reznek (Toronto, Canada) and Joris Van Eck (Ospel, The Netherlands) all took their opponents to the limit, playing to a third set in their respective singles' matches.

Against Fairleigh Dickinson, Marist again dropped the doubles' point, but responded in a big way by winning five of the six singles' matches.

Lorenzo Rossi (Lugano, Switzerland) started the winning at the second position, defeating his opponent by a 6-0, 7-5 score.

Klassen, Reznek and Van Eck carried momentum from their tough earlier matches to easy victory at the third, fourth and fifth positions.

Joseph Dube (Livonia, Mich.) completed the winning with a 6-4, 6-1 win in the sixth slot.

"I really liked the way we competed in singles this weekend," head coach Tim Smith said. "Even when we went into a slump against Yale, we pushed three matches to a third set and then came back in a big way against Fairleigh Dickinson."

Marist is off until making a spring break trip to Washington., D.C. The Red Foxes will play the University of the District of Columbia on Wednesday, March 20 before taking on Georgetown on the following day.
