POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Senior Joel Moss (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) of the Marist cross country/track & field teams and senior Chris Vanzetta (Latham, N.Y.) of the Marist track & field team were each named CoSIDA/Capital One First Team All-District on Thursday.
This is the first Academic All-District honor in Moss' career. The Information Technology & Systems major earned the President's Academic Achievement Award at this year's Senior Awards Banquet by virtue of having the highest grade-point average of any senior student-athlete. In the outdoor track season, he qualified for the IC4A Championships in the 10,000 meters by virtue of a 31:04.35 time at the Penn Relays. In the 2012 cross country season, he earned a scoring position by placing 22nd overall, helping Marist earn a second-place finish behind nationally-ranked Iona.
Vanzetta was named Academic All-District for the second straight year. A Business Administration major, he was a member of the school-record holder 4 X 800-meter outdoor relay, which had the first sub-7:40 time in school history at this year's MAAC Championships (7:39.27). Over the past two springs, this relay has improved the school record time by over 13 seconds, and has re-set the record four times. Vanzetta ran the leadoff leg each time it was broken. This relay has also qualified for the IC4A Championships each of the last two years.
The selections of Moss and Vanzetta gave Marist six Academic All-District honorees in the 2012-13 academic year. Both are now eligible to be named Academic All-America.
