POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Head Coach Tom Hanna and the Marist Athletics Department have released the 2013 Marist volleyball schedule. The Red Foxes will a 28-match regular season slate that features 12 home matches at McCann Arena including the Volley in the Valley Tournament.

Marist will open its season on the road at the University of Toledo Volleyball Invite. The Red Foxes will play the host Rockets and Eastern Illinois on Friday, Aug. 30. They will then close out the tournament the following day with a match against Loyola University Chicago.

The season-opening road trip will conclude with a match at Army on Wednesday, Sept. 4.

The Red Foxes will host the Volley in the Valley Tournament Sept. 6-7 at McCann Arena. They will play Dartmouth on Friday evening before taking on Hartford and UMass-Lowell on Saturday. This is the UMass-Lowell's first season as a Division I program. Last season, Marist won the Volley in the Valley Tournament with a wins over Hartford and Fordham. Senior Hanna Stoiberg (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) was named the Tournament MVP and senior Katie Estes (Saugus, Calif.) and junior Grace Hill (Kalamazoo, Mich.) were both selected to the All-Tournament Team.

Marist will close out non-conference play when it travels to the Crosstown Tournament, hosted by Lafayette and Lehigh. The Red Foxes will play Lafayette on Friday, Sept. 13 as well as St. Francis (N.Y.) and Lehigh on Saturday, Sept. 14.

Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play begins the weekend of Sept. 21-22 when the Red Foxes host Manhattan and Iona in a pair of 1 p.m. matches.

The team will be on the road for the next six matches, beginning with the annual trip to the Buffalo area to play Canisius and Niagara the weekend of Sept. 28-29. The Red Foxes will then play a pair of midweek games, first on Thursday, Oct. 3 at Siena and Wednesday, Oct. 9 at Fairfield. The road trip will conclude the weekend of Oct. 12-13 with matches at Rider and Saint Peter's.

Marist returns to McCann Arena for a quick, two-match weekend Oct. 19-20. After playing their second match in 10 days against Fairfield on Saturday, the Red Foxes will play first-year MAAC member Quinnipiac on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Red Foxes will head back out on the road for the next three matches, playing at Iona and Manhattan on the weekend of Oct. 26-27 and playing a midweek match at Quinnipiac on Wednesday, Oct. 30.

Marist will play its final five matches of the regular season on its home court, beginning with a Saturday, Nov. 2 match against Siena at 4 p.m. Niagara and Canisius will visit McCann Arena on the weekend of Nov. 9-10 for 1 p.m. contests. The regular season will conclude the following weekend, Nov. 16-17 with a 4 p.m. match on Saturday versus Saint Peter's and a 1 p.m. match on Sunday against Rider.

The MAAC Volleyball Championships will be held the weekend of Nov. 23-24 at Siena's Alumni Recreation Center (ARC). The top four teams qualify from the regular season qualify for the MAAC Championships.

"Our non-conference schedule should have us well prepared for MAAC play,” Hanna said. “I think we have a good balance of teams in the first three weeks that'll reflect what we'll see in conference action. The first four matches of the season will be a great challenge before we come home to defend our Volley in the Valley crown. "

The Red Foxes finished the 2012 season at 12-16 overall and 8-10 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). They finished the year on a strong note, winning five of their final six matches, leaping several teams to finish sixth in the conference.
