BRONX, N.Y. – The Marist men's swimming and diving team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 126-111 non-conference victory over Fordham on Oct. 23. It was the Red Foxes' first win at Fordham since 2006.
Marist's first-place 400-yard medley relay team swam to the fastest dual meet time in program history, clocking in at 3:31.32. The all-senior team consisted of Dylan Cummings (Midland Park, N.J.), Nick Vandermolen (Brielle, N.J.), Jason Ruddy (Lake Katrine, N.Y.) and John Spitzer (Fairport, N.Y.).
Marist had a diver qualify for the NCAA Championships, as junior Josh Dodway (Niskayuna, N.Y.) racked up 304.65 points in the 1-meter dive. Dodway also scored the most points in the 3-meter dive with a score of 291.08.
Cummings registered a pair of individual victories. He finished the 200-yard individual medley in a first-place time of 1:57.43 and won the 200-yard backstroke in 1:53.90. Spitzer won the 50-yard freestyle in 21.94 seconds and placed second at 100 yards (48.25 seconds).
Freshman Sam Presgraves (Leesburg, Va.) picked up his first collegiate victory with a first place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:14.46).
The Red Foxes have a pair of home Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference meets coming up on the schedule, as they will face Fairfield at 1 p.m. Nov. 8 and battle against Rider at 6 p.m. Nov. 15.
