BALTIMORE, Md. - The Marist men's swimming and diving team (5-2, 4-1) earned a pair of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference victories and fell to host Loyola, 188-182, at the H2ounds Invitational from Dec. 5-6. The Red Foxes took down Saint Peter's, 267-89, and defeated Iona, 256-112.
In the second and final session Dec. 6, senior John Spitzer (Fairport, N.Y.) finished second in the 100-yard freestyle (46.62). The Red Foxes also had consecutive finishers in the 200-yard butterfly, as sophomore Alexander Cassel (East Greenville, Pa.) and senior Jason Ruddy (Lake Katrine, N.Y.) finished second (1:54.37) and third (1:54.46) respectively. The 200- and 400-yard freestlye relay teams each earned second place.
Sophomore Ryan Murphy (New Fairfield, Conn.) kicked off the tri-meet by setting a program record in the 500-yard freestyle Dec. 5, clocking in at 4:28.06. He also completed the final leg of the 800-yard freestyle relay, which Marist won in 6:56.33. Murphy took two more individual victories Dec. 6, claiming the top spot in the 200- and 1,650-yard freestyle events.
The Red Foxes' three divers finished atop the final scoring in the 3- and 1-meter dives. Junior Josh Dodway (Niskayuna, N.Y.) racked up 280.70 points at three meters and 301.70 points on the 1-meter board to take first place. Senior Jacob Baker (Shavertown, Pa.) followed in second place with 273.15 points and 280.25 points, respectively. Freshman Peter Gallino (Watertown, Conn.) came in third place after posting respective scores of 243.30 points and 228.80 points.
Marist returns to McCann Natatorium at 1 p.m. Jan. 10 to face Southern Connecticut State.
