Marist Men's Soccer Releases 2014 Schedule Featuring Eight Home Games

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Marist men's soccer team has released its 18-game 2014 schedule. The Red Foxes will host eight home games at Tenney Stadium, including three non-conference and five Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) games, and play the remaining 10 on the road.

“We think we have a nice mix of non-conference games against traditionally strong teams,” said head coach Matt Viggiano. “We're looking forward to our home opener, having a Big East team come here. It should be fun for us and the community.”

Marist kicks off its season at home on Friday, Aug. 29 against Villanova at 7 p.m. The Red Foxes then hit the road for a four-game non-conference slate, beginning on Monday, Sept. 1 to face Binghamton, NJIT, Columbia, and Sacred Heart.

Home action picks back up on Tuesday, Sept. 16 against Army followed by another home match against St. Joseph's on Sunday, Sept. 21. Marist concludes non-conference play on Friday, Sept. 26 at New Hampshire. The Red Foxes picked up their lone non-conference win of the 2013 season against the Wildcats with a 2-0 victory last year.

Marist opens up a 10-game MAAC schedule on Wednesday, Oct. 1 in Poughkeepsie against Manhattan. The Red Foxes then travel to Fairfield, just three days later, on Oct. 4 to face the Stags at 7 p.m. Marist returns home for back-to-back conference games one week apart against Iona and Quinnipiac on Wednesday, Oct. 8 and Oct. 15, respectively. Both games are scheduled for 7 p.m.

The Red Foxes then kick off a three-game conference schedule at Saint Peter's on Saturday, Oct. 18. Marist picked up its first MAAC win of the season last year over the Peacocks at home, 2-1. The squad will make the Buffalo trip on Wednesday, Oct. 22 to face Canisius then return to New Jersey on Saturday, Oct. 25 to play Monmouth.

Marist returns to Tenney Stadium for its final two home games of the regular season against Niagara on Wednesday, Oct. 29 and Rider on Saturday, Nov. 1. The Red Foxes conclude their season on Wednesday, Nov. 5 against Siena. Marist was victorious in last year's matchup, downing the Saints 2-1 at home.

“The schedule has a nice balance of home and away games,” said Viggiano. “We look forward to getting the support of our home fans. The fact that there is a six-team tournament this season will make the MAAC wide open and it should go down to the last day of the season which is great for everyone.”
