POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Marist women's basketball program has announced the hiring of Leanne Ockenden as its director of operations.
Ockenden was a standout guard for the Red Foxes from 2010-14. She was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year as a junior and senior, and scored 1,120 career points. Marist won the MAAC regular-season championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament in all four years of her career.
“We couldn't be happier to have Leanne back with us on staff,” Marist Head Coach Brian Giorgis said. “Her knowledge of the program will be extremely helpful to us.”
Ockenden was a three-time Third Team All-MAAC selection, earning the honor in her sophomore, junior and senior seasons. She was named to the MAAC All-Tournament Team as a junior and earned MAAC Player of the Week honors twice in her career.
“It's great to be back and stay with the program,” Ockenden said. “I'm excited to be a part of the Marist family, and hopefully we continue the success that we've had.”
Ockenden's responsibilities on staff will include game film, administrative duties and technology-based initiatives.
The Marist women's basketball team has won the last 11 MAAC regular-season championships, and has advanced to the NCAA Tournament 10 times, including nine straight years. The Red Foxes will open the 2014-15 season, their 13th under Giorgis' leadership.
