POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist Women's basketball team (9-6, 5-1 MAAC) return home after two road wins in a row against Monmouth and Manhattan. This time the Red Foxes face host MAAC foe Canisius (5-10, 3-3). The Red Foxes hold a twelve game winning streak against the Griffins and also hold the all-time series record at 29-13. The Red Foxes took both games against Canisius last year including the programs 200th MAAC victory of all-time in their second match-up of the season. Friday's game is also autograph night.
Senior center Tori Jarosz (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) recorded her second double-double in as many games as the Marist women's basketball team (9-6, 5-1 MAAC) led wire-to-wire and defeated the Manhattan Jaspers (2-13, 1-5 MAAC), 67-45, Monday afternoon.
SCOUTING THE GRIFFINS: Cansius has opened MAAC play at 3-3 and are currently tied for fifth place in the conference with Siena and Niagara. Senior Kayla Hoohull and junior Emily Weber are tied for third in the MAAC with 15 3-pointers made in conference play and has used the same starting lineup in all 15 games this season. Weber scored a career high 22 points against Siena on Sunday as she hit 6-9 of her three pointers. Keeping Weber cool from deep will be a big key for the Red Foxes.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR THE RED FOXES: DEFENSE! The Red Foxes have held 12 of their first 15 opponents to under 30 percent shooting thus far this season and will look to continue that trend against the Griffins. The Griffins as a team are shooting close to 42 percent from the field and 39 percent from behind the three point line. Canisius doesn't rebound well so making them miss the first time around can lead to one shot possessions for the Red Foxes defense.
ON THE AIR: Friday's 7 P.M. game will be broadcast live on ROCK 93-3 FM in Poughkeepsie, with Geoff Brault providing play-by-play. The broadcast will also be available online at the Red Fox Network and iHeart Radio. Video will be available on the Red Fox Network for a subscription fee. The pregame show starts at 6:45 P.M.
UP NEXT: MAAC play continues as the Red Foxes takes on Siena for the second time this season, Sunday, Jan. 18 at 12 P.M. in McCann Arena. Sunday's game is the first half of a men's-women's doubleheader.
