POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist women's swimming and diving team ended the 2014-15 regular season 9-2 after defeating Binghamton, 163-137, on Senior Day on Saturday in McCann Natatorium.
Freshman Karly Haraden (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) and junior captain Bethany Powhida (Delmar, N.Y.) each won two events. Haraden took the top spot in the 1,000- (10:33.13) and 500-yard (5:13.18) freestyle events and was a member of Marist's 400-yard freestyle relay team. She placed second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:00.40.
Powhida led the Red Foxes in the backstroke, winning the 100- (59.41 seconds) and 200-yard events (2:08.06). She posted a second-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly after clocking in at 59.71 seconds.
In the diving events, freshman Megan Berardelli (Ambler, Pa.) placed first in the 1-meter event with 257.77 points. Junior Renata Diotalevi (Madison, Conn.) won the 3-meter dive after racking up 259.20 points, helping Marist finish 1-2-3 on both boards.
Sophomore Colleen Lampe (East Setauket, N.Y.) swam the first leg of the 200-yard medley relay against her sister, Binghamton senior captain Shannon Lampe. Binghamton edged out Marist by just 1.53 seconds in the first event of the meet. The two also faced off in the 100-yard backstroke, with Colleen finishing in second (59.74) and Shannon right behind in third (1:00.48).
The Red Foxes will kick off their championship season at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships from Feb. 11-14 in Buffalo, N.Y. Marist won all five of its meets against MAAC teams this season and has placed first at the conference championships the past five seasons.
