POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. ? The Marist Women's basketball team look to rebound from a home loss Tuesday night against Fairfield as they hit the road for another Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) matchup against the Monmouth Hawks. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN3, one of 47 MAAC games that will be nationally televised on the ESPN networks during the 2014-15 campaign.
The Red Foxes other contests on the ESPN networks this year include a Jan. 31 road matchup against Iona (ESPN3), a Feb. 12 home contest against Quinnipiac (ESPN3), and a Feb. 20 home game against Iona (ESPNU). Other wildcard games will be determined at a later date.
The last time these two teams hit the court the Red Foxes earned a win in their tenth conference opener in a row downing the Hawks, 75-65 on December 5th, 2014. In her first game back from injury, senior center Tori Jarosz (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) scored 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds while junior forward Madeline Blais (Exeter, N.H.) finished with 22 points, five short of her career high and added eight rebounds.
LAST TIME OUT: The Marist women's basketball team (7-6, 3-1 MAAC) winners of their previous six straight fell to the Fairfield Stags (3-10, 2-2 MAAC), 56-55, Tuesday night at McCann Arena. In a game that saw the lead change ten times throughout and numerous times in the last minute alone, Fairfield came away with their second win in as many tries against the Red Foxes both on the road in an arena not usually friendly to the opposition.
SCOUTING THE HAWKS: After snapping a four game losing streak against Rider, 66-62, the Hawks (6-8, 2-3 MAAC) return home from a four game road stretch to take on the Red Foxes. The Hawks have a trio of post players with size one the enterior. The Red Foxes will need to run their motion offense with quickness and look to get out on the break against the Hawks.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR THE RED FOXES: Rebounding in the return trip. It's been a year of streaks for the Red Foxes thus far, losing their first four games of the year, spliting the next two games, and then rebounding to win all five of their games in December plus their return from break game in January against Siena. It will be interesting to see how the team responds to losing their first MAAC game of the season, coming down to the wire against an always tough Fairfield team, and if execution in late game situations can help the squad later on in the year. Monmouth scored well against the Red Foxes the first time around but look for the Red Foxes defense to lock in similar to how the team did during their December winning streak.
