RIVERDALE, New York - The Marist volleyball team avenged a previous Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference loss, charging back to defeat Manhattan, 3-2 (25-16, 12-25, 21-25, 25-23, 15-8), on Nov. 1. The Red Foxes are now 17-8 overall and 10-4 in conference play.
Senior Kelsey Lahey slammed a match-high 17 kills and had 10 digs and five service aces on the afternoon. Junior Amanda Schlegel registered a double-double with 37 assists and 15 digs.
A seven-point scoring spree with sophomore Kelsey Ediger serving put the Red Foxes ahead 9-4 in the opening set. Six kills from Lahey highlighted the frame.
The Jaspers took back control in the middle two sets, which featured just four lead changes combined. 11 straight Manhattan points closed out the second set and Marist was within two early in the third set, but later found itself down 2-1 in the match.
In the fourth set, Manhattan had a five-point lead halfway through and was up 20-12, but the Red Foxes ripped off a 12-2 run that got them to set point. A kill from Jasper senior Claire Van Dyk continued the set, but a Manhattan attack error resulted in a decisive fifth set.
Marist took a 2-1 lead in the final set and never looked back, racking up points with the help of four kills and three digs from Ediger.
Manhattan junior libero Allie Yamashiro sprawled for 22 digs, but the Jaspers hit just .092 in the match. Both sides combined for 21 service aces in the contest.
The Red Foxes will wrap up a three-match road trip when they face Fairfield at 7 p.m. Nov. 4.
