POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist women's indoor track team started the 2015-16 season out with a bang, breaking the school record in the 4x400 meter relay at the Metro Holiday Season Opener in Staten Island, NY on Saturday, Dec. 5. Junior Courtney Cartwright, freshman Deborah Boerke, junior Molly Weeks and sophomore Danisha Craig finished the event with a final time of 4:00.20, just narrowly beating the old record of 4:00.60 that was set last season also by Weeks, Cartwright and Craig. The result was especially impressive as all four competed in other events earlier and were not completely fresh for the relay.
Freshman Candhace Forrest began her Red Fox career in style as well, bursting onto the scene with a brilliant race in the 60-meter dash, finishing just 0.02 off the school record set by Danielle Asaro last season. As if one school record was not enough, Boerke also finished just .08 seconds of the record for the 60 meter hurdle, with a final time 9.11 seconds.
Following an extended break, the Red Foxes will return to the track on January 15, at the STAC Invitation in Staten Island, NY.
