POUGHKEEPSIE-N.Y. – Junior Madeline Blais (Exeter, N.H.) of the Marist women's basketball team has been named to the 2014-15 Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District team, the CoSIDA members announced Thursday. It is the first time in her career she has received the honor and It's the third time this season a student-athlete from Marist has been awarded this honor.
The 2014-15 Capital One Academic All-District ® Women's Basketball Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, have been released to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
Blais, a business major, has been previously selected as a member of the 2014-15 All-MAAC First team, 2013-14 All-MAAC second team, and 2013-14 All-MAAC Academic team. Blais has been a leading force in the Red Foxes success on and off the court this season, currently ranked number one in the country in free throw percentage (.932) and eighth in the nation in three point field goal percentage (.460), averaging 15.9 points per game, 5.6 rebounds per game and starting in all 21 of the Red Foxes games this season.
Up next Blais and the Red Foxes (14-7, 10-2 MAAC) set out on their Buffalo trip to take on Canisius and Niagara, the Griffins for the second time this year and the Purple Eagles for the first. Thursday's game against Niagara will also air state wide on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel.
