CAMBRIDGE, MASS. – The Marist water polo team (5-7) fell to #11 Princeton (13-1) in the opening game of the Harvard Invitational on Saturday, March 7.
Sophomore Amanda Amorosa (Montreal, BC) led all Red Foxes in scoring, netting three goals on nine shots on goal. Senior captains Hannah Levien (Davis, Calif.) and Anna-Lena Hathaway (South Pasadena, Calif.) each added a goal to conclude the scoring for Marist. Sophomore Jocelyn McQuade (Vancouver, BC) had a team-high three assists.
Marist fell behind early giving up four goals in a scoreless quarter for the Red Foxes, down 4-0 after the first. Amorosa scored the only goal for Marist in the second quarter to head into halftime down 5-1. Levien and Amorosa each netted a goal in the third quarter but failed to stop Princeton's potent offense heading into the final quarter of play down 10-3. The Red Foxes held Princeton scoreless in the fourth quarter while Hathaway and Amorosa each tallied a goal to give the final score of 10-5.
Junior goalie Skyler Henry (San Diego, Calif.) made 10 saves while giving up 10 goals against. Henry had two takeaways in the loss.
The Red Foxes were 1-for-2 in their 6-on-5 opportunities.
Marist continues tournament play when it takes on the host Harvard at 6:45 p.m. on Saturday, March 7.
