The score was tied at one apiece going into the bottom of the fifth, when the Golden Griffins scored four times.

Canisius maintained its 5-1 lead until the top of the seventh, when Marist scored four times to tie the game. An RBI single by freshman center fielder Gabrielle Kelliher made the score 5-2, and then freshman Kourtney Paul came home on a wild pitch to cut the Red Foxes' deficit to two. With two outs, Van Natta's two-run single tied the game. In the bottom half of the inning, White stranded the winning run at third with two outs.

Marist had runners on first and second in top of the eighth, but was unable to score. In the bottom of the inning, right fielder Michelle DelPrince hit a two-out walk-off grand slam.

Mackie (10-4) pitched final 1.1 innings to earn the win. White (7-8), who came in on relief of starter Jayne Oberdorf in the fifth, took the loss.
